Congrats to the Indiana Fever on their first-ever WNBA championship! The Fever knocked out the Minnesota Lynx last night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse to close out the championship series with a huge 87-78 victory.
Indy’s Finest, a local franchise of the new Women’s American Basketball Association, will be participating in the league’s first official season this March, 2012. The WABA is a professional basketball league expanded from the historical American Basketball Association and will launch an abbreviated season to kick-off the women’s league.
The WNBA draft is underway, and Indiana products Amber Harris (North Central) and Ta’Shia Phillips (Brebeuf) were drafted in the first round.
According to several sources, Indiana great Stephanie White (Seeger/ Purdue) has been named an assistant coach for the Indiana Fever.

Their college careers are behind them, but there might be a chance that Notre Dame guard Ashley Barlow (Pike) and Butler forward Melanie Thornton (Carmel) could still find themselves in the WNBA sometime in the future.
