If you’ve never had the chance to make your choice officially count toward the selection of Indiana’s Miss Basketball, now is your chance!

In conjunction with the 75th year of the Indiana All-Stars, game organizers are offering fans a chance to vote for whom they think should be 2013 Miss Basketball.

In online voting that runs February 26 through March 7 for Miss Basketball, the winner of each fan vote will be credited with one additional vote in the official balloting for the awards. Traditionally, high school coaches and media members from across Indiana have the opportunity to vote for Miss Basketball. This year, that process will be supplemented with the winner of the fan vote receiving one extra vote.

The ballot includes 32 senior players from around the state and also the ability for a write-in vote if you don’t see your favorite player on the ballot.

To participate in the fan vote, CLICK HERE and follow the directions. Later, a similar fan balloting will occur for 2013 Mr. Basketball. Look for information about that in March.

This year’s All-Star games against Kentucky will be June 14 in Louisville and June 15 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Hoosier Basketball Magazine’s

Further research and evaluation is occurring during the remainder of the 2013 IHSAA state tournament to determine a final list of 60 seniors. Those 60 girls will be invited to Hoosier Basketball Magazine¹s 32nd annual Top 60 Senior Girls¹ Workout Sunday, March 10, 2013 on the campus of Marian University in Indianapolis. Only 60 of the Top 100 will be invited to the March 10th Top 60 event.

The purposes of the Top 60 Senior Girls¹ Workout are:

1. To enable 60 of the best seniors from the class of 2013 to meet and compete.
2. To afford these same 60 seniors significant postseason exposure in front of numerous college coaches who will be in attendance.
3. To enable the 2013 Indiana-Kentucky All-Star Game Director and coaches to view the 60 participants for their purposes.

The Top 60 Senior Girls¹ Workout, in conjunction with the Indiana High School Athletic Association and Indiana Basketball Coaches Association, will be divided into two sessions: 1:00-3:00 p.m. and 3:30-5:30 p.m. Both sessions are open to the public for one general admission price for both sessions.

She recently became Benton Central’s all-time leading scorer in a win over Lafayette Central Catholic on January 22nd, scoring 23 points to get her to the 1,454 career point mark and counting, which surpassed the 1,444 career point record previously held by Skylar Gick (Valparaiso/Florida Gulf Coast). She also recorded a triple-double in a 60-45 win over West Lafayette on December 6 with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. That triple-double garnered her a place on the USA Today American Family Insurance ALL-USA Performances of the Week list.

Tolen, who chose the Jaguars over opportunities at Texas Tech and Indiana, cited a variety of reasons for her choice, according to WLFI-TV in Lafayette.

“They have great academics, which has always been my number one priority,” said Tolen, who plans to major in pre-med. “I love the coaching staff and players and I feel that I fit in with their type of play very well. I am super excited to see what the future holds for me as a Lady Jag. I fully believe in Coach P (Austin Parkinson) and think IUPUI is a program on the rise. I also really like that IUPUI is close to home so my family and friends can still be able so see me play.”

Tolen joins a solid Indiana senior recruiting class for IUPUI head coach Parkinson with North Montgomery 5’10 guard Kelsi Byrd and 6’3 Lawrence North forward Mikale Rogers. The Jaguars have shown consistent improvement as a program under Parkinson, currently at 11-9 (5-3 conference) for the season and holding in at third place in the Summit League after going 3-26 (2-14 conference) in 2009-10 under the previous coaching staff.

The 16-3 Bison, ranked 3A No. 3 in this week’s IHSAA poll, are slated to open sectional play in the Friday bye game against the winner of West Lafayette versus Peru on February 8.

The 5’5 junior point guard amassed 40 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists and 12 steals in her team’s 19th win of the season.

According to the Logansport Pharos Tribune, Jennings was 17 of 24 (68%)  from the field and 6 of 6 at the free throw line. She did most of the damage in the first half, tallying 24 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 8 steals by the break.

The Berries are currently 20-1 and ranked No. 3 in today’s IHSAA 4A poll. They will play McCutcheon in first-round sectional action on February 5.
