Ben Davis win streak ends at 81; Carmel downs the Giants 65-62 in Regional Final
The longest win streak in Indiana girls basketball history ended tonight with Carmel handing the Giants their first loss in three years — February 16, 2008, to be exact — ironically, to Carmel in a 56-45 regional final loss. This year’s Carmel and Ben Davis seniors were freshmen during that season.
According to the Indianapolis Star, senior Torrie Thornton (Purdue) and junior Blaire Langlois (Butler) went a combined 3 for 6 from the line after Bria Goss (Kentucky) hit a shot with 1:50 left in the fourth to tie the game. Goss had a chance at the line during that span, but missed the front end of a one-and-one with 57 seconds to go.
A 30-foot heave at the buzzer by Goss — who sank a half-court shot at the end of the first half — misses the mark, sending the Greyhounds to the 4A South Semi-State next Saturday, where they will face Jeffersonville, who downed Mooresville 59-44 at the Bedford Regional.
