D1 Rookie Report
The D1 college women’s basketball season started on Friday. Wondering how some of the Hoosier prep Class of 2013 performed in their college debuts this weekend? Here are a few:
- Stephanie Mavunga – No. 12 North Carolina (Brownsburg)
In her team’s season opening 87-26 win over Air Force, Mavunga posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds on 7 of 9 shooting in 21 minutes of action. The 2013 Miss Basketball also added three blocks for good measure. - Taya Reimer – No. 6 Notre Dame (Hamilton SE)
As a starter for the Irish, Reimer logged 6 points, 12 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 assists in her official college debut on Saturday. In an exhibition win earlier in the week, the freshman scored 27 points in 20 minutes, going a perfect 11-11 from the field. - Celeste Edwards – No. 14 Dayton (North Central)
In her first D-1 contest action, Edwards came off the bench to contribute with 6 points, 4 assists and 2 rebounds in 30 minutes of action in a 97-93 overtime loss at Iowa. - Sasha Robinson – Evansville (Brown County)
As a starter for the Aces, Robinson contributed with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist and 0 turnovers in 24 minutes of action as Evansville thumped Eastern Illinois 81-46 on Friday. - Nicole Anderson – Miami (Terre Haute North)
As a starter for the RedHawks in Ohio, Anderson debuted with 13 points and 7 rebounds in 28 minutes of action in a 59-55 loss to Eastern Kentucky. - Mikale Rogers – IUPUI (North Central)
In an 80-58 opening season victory over Belmont, Rogers came off the bench to contribute with 13 points (5-6 shooting), 5 rebounds and 3 blocks in 15 minutes for the Jaguars. - Rachel Rinehart – IPFW (Angola)
Came off the bench to score 10 points in 17 minutes in a 69-46 WNIT first round loss to Wichita State. - Ally Lehman – Northern Illinois (Indian Creek)
Lehman came off the bench in a loss to Green Bay to score 3 points, pull down 6 rebounds and dish out 2 assists in 27 minutes of action. - Meredith Shipman – Western Michigan (FW Snider)
As a starter for her team’s first two games (1-1), Shipman contributed with 5 points, 8 assists and 2 steals.
