ND, Purdue rank 4th & 5th in attendance for 2009-10

The NCAA released nation-wide attendance statistics for women’s basketball for the 2009-10 season today. Indiana programs Notre Dame and Purdue ranked 4th and 5th in Division I per game attendance at 8,377 and 8,159, respectively. The Irish totaled 142,412 fans over 17 games, and the Boilermakers 146,868 fans over 18 games.

Tennessee — for the seventh straight year — led all schools in per game attendance with 12,896 fans per game, or 219,233 through 17 games.

Notre Dame also ranked No. 7 in largest attendance increase from the previous season at 1,209 more fans per game than in 2008-09.

Over all, NCAA women’s basketball attendance for the 2009-10 season surpassed 11 million for the third straight year and was the second-highest total in history.
