Huge shake-ups in IHSAA sectional assignments for 2011-2013
The IHSAA Executive Committee has approved the recommendations of the realignment committees responsible for placing member schools into sectional groups in six team sports for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 school years.
With the realignment, the committee responsible for basketball has put 4A schools that were in the South semi-state region into the North semi-state region. Powerhouses Carmel, Fishers, Hamilton SE, Noblesville and North Central are all now considered North semi-state contenders. The committee effectively switched Sectionals 8 members with Sectional 9 members, although North Central — formerly in Sectional 10 — is a new member of that original Sectional 9 grouping.
Also, Sectional 12 and 13 have switched places, putting Martinsville, Mooresville, Plainfield and Terre Haute North and South into the same regional grouping with Ben Davis and Decatur Central, among other Indy-area programs.
Proposals and tournament formats will be submitted to the IHSAA Executive Committee for approval in October of 2011 for winter sports.
