Lots of great performances this past week, both at the high school and college levels. Although it is very early in the season, a number of players are making their mark, especially in the prep arena. In Week 2, five of our high school nominees scored 30 points or more to vie for Peak Performer honors.

RRR High School Peak Performer for Week 2

In Mooresville’s 74-64 win against Bedford North Lawrence on November 16, 5’8 senior combo guard Jama Sharp (right) logged 33 points, 13 rebounds, 9 assists, 8 steals and 2 blocks. Of note: The high-scoring Stetson recruit also scored a game-high 28 points (6 treys) in her team’s 69-29 win over Northview two days later. Sharp ranks first in the state in points per game (28.3, three or more games) and steals per game (7.3) through the second week of the season.

• In Bishop Noll Institute’s 35-33 win against South Newton on November 20, 5’5 senior combo guard Rose Mullaney logged 21 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocks. Of note: Mullaney hit the game winning shot with 3 seconds left on clock to give the Warriors their second win of the season.
• In Rensselaer Central’s 65-62 win against Winamac on November 19, 5’8 senior guard/forward Allie Mattocks logged 32 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 6 steals. Of note: The 32 points tied a career high for Mattocks. The victory over Winamac was the first for the Lady Bombers since the 2006 sectional and snapped a 4-game losing streak to the Lady Warriors. • In Western’s 67-26 win against Peru on November 19, senior Nicole Rogers logged 32 points, 7 steals, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 block. Of note: The hot-handed Panther shot 63 percent from the field (12-19), including 4 of 5 from three-point. Of note: “What stands out to me is her defense,” says Western head coach Kathie Layden. “Nicole is putting together complete games and being unselfish with the ball and really taking over in all aspects of the game.”
• In Fort Wayne Snider’s 69-45 win against Northrop on November 19, 6’2 senior forward/center Liza Clemons logged a triple-double with 21 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals and 10 blocks. Of note: Through 4 games, Clemons is averaging 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game.
• In Borden’s 56-34 win against Crothersville on November 16, guard Erin Mikel scored 21 points to go with 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
• In Southwestern’s 54-43 win against Jennings County on November 19, junior guard Brandi Ponder scored 19 points to go with 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 3 blocks. Of note: Ponder, who scored 12 points in the first eight minutes of the game, missed most of her sophomore season after suffering a knee injury last year.
• In Blackhawk Christian’s 50-38 win against Adams Central on November 19, 6’0 forward Allison Kauffman logged 31 points and 15 rebounds. Of note: The Grace recruit scored 16 of the Braves’ 22 first-half points in the game, and passed the 1,000 point scoring mark last week.
• In Evansville Bosse’s 50-45 win against Castle on November 16, 5’3 sophomore point guard Janisha Lindsey scored 18 points to go with 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 10 steals.
• In Benton Central’s 56-38 win against Lafayette Central Catholic on November 16, sophomore point guard Caitlyn Tolen scored 21 points to go with 5 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocks.
• In Elkhart Memorial’s 67-44 win against South Bend St. Joseph’s on November 16, 5’7 junior guard Briona Bartnett scored a game-high 24 points, including 15 in the final quarter.
• In No. 6 Bloomington South’s 48-39 victory over Terre Haute South on November 16, 5’10 senior guard/forward Kaila Hulls, a Bowling Green recruit, scored 19 points to go with 13 rebounds and 3 steals.
• In Decatur Central’s 65-56 win against Indianapolis Roncalli on November 18, 5’6 junior combo guard Lexus Murry scored a game-high 30 points (3 treys). Of note: So far this season, the Butler recruit is averaging 23.7 points per game.

RRR College Peak Performer for Week 2

On Wednesday, November 17, Miami (OH) 5’10 sophomore guard Courtney Osborn (Hamilton Southeastern) logged a double-double with 16 points (3 treys), 12 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals in 35 minutes of play in a 76-59 non-conference win over Eastern Kentucky. Of note: Her 12 assists were a career high for Osborn while at Miami and was just one assist short of the RedHawks single game record.

• On Sunday, November 21, senior guard Brittany Rayburn (Attica ’07) logged 21 points, 2 rebounds 2, steals and 2 assists to help her team capture the Preseason WNIT Championship Title in a 67-58 win over DePaul.
• On Thursday, November 18, 6’1 Indiana sophomore forward Aulani Sinclair (Eminence ’09) logged 17 points and 4 rebounds in an 80-71 non-conference loss to Memphis. Of note: Sinclair’s 17 points (3 treys) was a college career high for the Indiana Hoosier.
• On Friday, November 19, Valparaiso 5’7 guard Betsy Adams (Twin Lakes ’08) logged 20 points (4-7 from three point), 5 rebounds and 2 steals in a 72-57 Preseason WNIT win over Austin Peay.
• On Monday, November 15, New Mexico 6’0 junior guard Lauren Taylor (Brownsburg ’08) logged 22 points on 6 of 13 shooting (5-9 from three-point), 5 rebounds and 2 steals in a 71-59 non-conference win over UC Irvine. Of note: The five treys were a career high and her 22 points tied a career best as a Lobo.
• In Bellarmine’s 92-81 OT non-conference win against Lake Erie on November 19, 5’4 freshman point guard Kylee Hamilton (Indian Creek ’10) logged 15 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steals and 0 blocks. Of note: Playing in her first college game, Hamilton hit a game-tying free throw with 5 seconds to go in regulation to send game into overtime as Bellarmine defeated Lake Erie 92-81 in OT.
• On Monday, November 15, Xavier 6’5 senior forward Amber Harris (North Central ’06) logged 16 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 blocks in an 85-76 non-conference win over Michigan.
• Bellarmine guard Allison Matheis (Northeast Dubois ’08) had a good opening week, averaging 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists while shooting 10-20 from the field, 7-13 from three, and 10-14 from the line in two games.  Of note: Bellarmine won both games, including one against 16th ranked Charleston (WV) in which Matheis had 18 points and 9 rebounds.
