Seniors get ‘er done vs. KY 92-83
After successive exhibition losses — the first time any senior team had dropped two exhibition games to the juniors — some around the state might have been questioning whether or not the Indiana seniors would have what it takes to beat Kentucky Friday night. There aren’t any questions now.
Miss Basketball Courtney Moses (right) made sure her Hoosier team would head to Conseco Saturday with a win under their belts after leading Indiana to a 92-83 victory at Bellarmine University in Louisville. Moses dominated on the offensive end with 29 points, 20 coming in the first half. Photo from the Indianapolis Star.
Kentucky started out on a 10-2 run, but that’s when Moses took over. According to Kentucky All Star head coach Tommy Adams in the Lexington Herald-Leader, Moses “did everything but sell popcorn tonight. She shot free throws. She hit threes. She took us to the goal, big or little.”
Taking care of the ball and good defensive pressure by Indiana paid off big time in the win. The Hoosier contingent forced 30 turnovers, scoring 33 points off of the Bluegrass miscues, while committing just 13 giveaways of their own.
Moses received lots of help in the game from her supporting All-Star cast. Wisconsin recruit Jada Buggs (Elkhart Memorial) contributed with 13 points, Michigan State signee Bryonna Davis (Merrillville) had 12 points, Valparaiso recruit Maegen Callaway (Mooresville) popped in 10 and DePaul recruit Jasmine Penny (Logansport) had 8 points and a team high 8 rebounds. Kentucky will be looking for some revenge when the last game of the series moves to Conseco Fieldhouse tomorrow.
