The University of Indianapolis has announced that four-year head coach LeAnn Freeland has resigned to take the head coaching position at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Freeland is going back to an area she is familiar with. Prior to taking the job at UIndy, she was an assistant at Division I Florida Gulf Coast.

Freeland leaves the Greyhounds with a record of 89-35 (.718), garnering Great Lakes Valley Conference Coach of the Year in 2010.  She led UIndy to three consecutive NCAA Tournaments (2008-10), including an appearance in the 2009 Midwest Regional final.

Freeland was embroiled in some controversy earlier this year when she released leading scorer, Samantha Meissel, from her program because of “inappropriate on-court behavior.”

The UIndy athletic department is expected to make an announcement about the “future direction of Greyhound women’s basketball” later this week.
