RRR Peak Performers – Week 3

Hoosier players continue to give outstanding performances at both the high school and college level three weeks into the season.  Portage’s Tori Bliss and North Central grad Amber Harris at Xavier are this week’s Peak Performer honorees.

RRR High School Peak Performer for Week 3

In Portage High School’s 71-76 loss against 4A No. 7 Merrillville on November 26, 6’1 senior forward/center Tori Bliss logged 43 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Of note: Bliss set a school record by scoring 43 points in the contest.

Other high school nominees:

  • In Crown Point’s 80-74 win over Chesterton, junior guard Courtney Kvachkoff logged a career-high 29 points to go with 9 steals. Of note: The Bulldogs are 5-0 on the season. More: C.P.’s Courtney Kvachkoff scores career-high 29 in win over Chesterton – The Times
  • In Fountain Central’s 55-41 against North Montgomery on November 23, forward Kenzie Lindquist logged 23 points (12-15 from the free throw line), 9 rebounds and 5 steals.
  • In Norwell’s 65-55 against Concordia Lutheran on November 23, 6’2 junior forward Jessica Rupright logged 33 points (12-16 from the free throw line) and 8 rebounds.   • In Muncie Central’s 52-54 OT loss against Kokomo on November 27, 5’8 senior guard/forward Jamie Drummer logged 23 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, 7 steals and 2 blocks. More: Kokomo 54, Muncie Central 52 OT – Star Press
  • In Rensselaer Central’s 52-38 win against Delphi on November 27, 5’6 junior point guard Allie Deno logged 10 points, 2 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Of note: Deno scored a career high 10 points and dished out 5 assists while only committing 1 turnover in leading the Lady Bombers to a conference opening win over Delphi. The Lady Bombers played without leading scorer Allie Mattocks, improving to 4-1.
  • In Rensselaer Central’s 52-38 win against Delphi on November 27, 5’11 sophomore forward/center Emilie Ziese logged 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Of note: Ziese helped lead the Lady Bombers to a conference opening win and improve to 4-1, while leading scorer Allie Mattocks missed the game due to injury.
  • In Silver Creek’s 56-49 win against North Harrison on November 24, 5’7 sophomore guard Emily Clayton logged 16 points and 8 rebounds. More: Silver Creek, New Washington get Wednesday wins – News & Tribune
  • In Tipton’s 54-44 win against Frankton on November 23, 5’9 junior guard/forward Brooklyn Juday logged 21 points, 17 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Of note: The Junior All Star candidate has really flourished at the start of the 2010-11 season leading her Lady Devils to the best start in over 20 years. Through four games, Juday is averaging 18.8 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.25 steals per game, and is shooting 54% from the field.

RRR College Peak Performer for Week 3

In Xavier’s 71-59 over Louisville on November 23, 6’5 senior forward Amber Harris (North Central ’06) logged 28 points, 18 rebounds, 1 assist, 3 steals and 2 blocks in 39 minutes of play. Of note: The 18 rebounds was a college career-high for Harris. She currently leads the nationally ranked and undefeated No. 5 Musketeers in scoring (20.8 ppg) and ranks second in rebounds (9.8) per game.

Other college nominees:

  • In Purdue Calumet’s 74-67 win over IU South Bend on November 23, 5’8 sophomore guard Tierra Turner (Merrillville ’09) logged 24 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals in 36 minutes of play. Of note: Turner shot 53 percent from the field (8-15), including 3 of 4 from three-point and 5 of 5 from the charity stripe. The Merrillville grad captured Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Player of the Week honors two weeks in a row prior to her team’s win over IUSB. So far this season, she is averaging 20.8 points, 12.0 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 3.0 steals per game, while averaging a solid 51 percent from the field.   • In Evansville’s 77-67 win over Eastern Washington on November 27, 6’0 sophomore forward Meagan Collins (Boonville ’09) logged 23 points and 5 rebounds in 22 minutes of action.   • In Butler’s 81-86 OT loss to Wake Forest, 5’10 senior forward Brittany Bowen (Columbus North ’07) logged 26 points, 7 rebounds (4 offensive), 3 assists and 4 steals. Of note: Bowen shot 50% from three point (4-8) and connected on all 4 of her free throws in the game.
  • In IU South Bend’s 64-63 non-conference win against Calvin College on November 27, 5’10 senior forward Katie Hacker (Franklin Central ’07) logged 26 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. Of note: Hacker was named MVP of Olivet College Thanksgiving Classic, leading her team to two wins (64-63 over Calvin in OT, 69-53 over Olivet). She averaged 22.5 points in the classic, going 11-22 from floor in Calvin game and 3-8 from three-point. More: Late basket gives Titans overtime win over Calvin – IUSB
